When we think about our business, our natural tendency is to focus on products and services and gaining/retaining customers.  If we do this well, then we'll gain the additional business problems of bringing on new employees and ensuring that they have good pay and benefits that will keep them employed at your business. Navigating these human resource issues can feel very daunting and perilous at times. For this Virtual Power Hour session, we'll be joined by three experts from within the HR industry who make their living helping small businesses overcome these challenges in order to thrive and continue growing. Some of the questions that will be answered during this session include:
  • How do I bring on a part-time employee or a full-time employee?
  • How do I handle hourly wage versus salary?
  • What needs to be in place for my first hire? Is it the same for an intern?
  • What are the differences between a W-2 employee, 1099, and independent contractor?
  • What are some easy ways for small businesses to run payroll?
  • How can I get benefits for my employees, especially if I only have a handful? That includes getting benefits for myself.
  • What are the minimum and standard HR policies that a company needs to have in place? Are there good resources to assist me in doing that?
  • What are some standard Do's and Don'ts for small businesses and HR?

Registration is not required but is appreciated. You may participate via this Zoom link or watch live on our Facebook page. Anyone unable to join live can always watch the recorded video later on our Facebook page. Our three guests for this session are John Will Tenney with EmployerNomics, Jonathan Fielden with ADP, and Jeremiah Fuller with Hylant.

In 1980, he started in software engineering and systems management (including website development). In 1989 he embarked on a career as a professional musician with multiple bands. He also learned to fly duirng this time and thus entered an aviation career that included 7 years as an airline pilot and Chief Pilot/Check Airman for Air Orlando Charter. He was also the Chief Check Pilot for The Florida Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, as an Air Force Liaison Officer. He began an airline career in 1995 and then that career was cut short by the events of September 11th, 2001. He and his wife Kathleen then became involved in the business of PEOs and Worker’s Comp Insurance. It was this field where they finally felt at home. In 2016, they formed EmployerNomics, a nationally franchised HR Outsourcing Brokerage. He and Kathleen currently consult with small to medium sized business owners to help them get to the next level. In addition, John supports several veterans efforts, such as the Camaraderie Foundation, Veteran's Beer Club Orlando, FAVOB and others.

Jonathan Fielden co-founded TopLine Staffing & Consulting in 2014 and transitioned from the war on terror (1st Battalion 3rd Marines) to the war on talent. As the President of TopLine, Jonathan helped growing organizations build strong teams and veteran initiatives. After four years as an entrepreneur and receiving an MBA from the Rollins College Crummer School of Business, Jonathan joined Automatic Data Processing (ADP) to help local businesses grow stronger and become more competitive. Jeremiah gained valuable leadership experience as a Squad Leader during his eight-year stint serving our country in the United States Army Infantry and Army Reserve.
